Healthy Breathing Starts here-Nasal Hygiene basics
A Warm Welcome to Our First Newsletter
I'm so excited to share with you the very first edition of the Buffalo Myo Monthly Wellness Newsletter!
Each month I'll bring you practical tips, resources and encouragement to support healthy breathing, restful sleep and overall wellness-for both children and adults.
Since the school year is upon us, this month's topic is one that's overlooked but can make a big difference in learning, focus and health: nasal hygiene.
Why Nasal Breathing Matters
Nasal breathing is your body’s natural air filter and oxygen booster. When we breathe through the nose:
Dust, allergens, and germs are filtered out
Oxygen absorption improves for brain and body function
Nitric oxide is produced, which supports immunity and healthy blood pressure
On the other hand: Mouth breathing can cause dryness, snoring, dental issues, and restless sleep—challenges that can impact learning and energy.
Quick Nasal Hygiene Tips
Keeping nasal passages clear is simple:
Saline spray or mist: Quick, gentle hydration for daily use
Nasal rinses (neti pot or squeeze bottle): Wash out allergens and mucus
Warm showers or steam: Naturally loosen congestion
Family Tip: Add nasal care to your child’s daily routine—before school in the morning or right before bed works wonderfully.
Healthy breathing is the foundation for learning, restful sleep, and overall wellness. Teaching children (and adults!) the habit of nasal hygiene now will set them up for success this school year and beyond.
If congestion, mouth breathing, or restless sleep are concerns, nasal hygiene plus myofunctional therapy can help retrain the body to breathe naturally through the nose.
